

The first Scottish Asian Business Awards was a huge success. It took place at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow on the 8th November 2006 and was greatly supported by the City Council and Lloyds TSB.
The winners of the nominated categories were as follows:
Young Achiever of the Year: Arti Poddar
Arti Poddar was a very deserving winner in this category. The 23 year old Care home Operations Director’s work has provided a very essential service to the community.
Newcomer of the year: Wahid and Shalid Sadiq
Having began a franchise called Subway, these two entrepreneurs now have over 70 outlets and employ over 500 people.
Businessman of the Year: Dev Fowder
The former nurse won this prize for managing to build a £15 million business in care homes. Having originally come to Britain from Mauritius with only £25 in his pocket, the progress he has made has been incredible. Today his business gives 800 patients a quality of life and dignity which they deserve.
Businesswoman of the Year: Shaheen Unis
This woman (and grandmother) was awarded Businesswoman of the Year for displaying remarkable tenacity in rebuilding her multi-million pound food empire after her premises was burnt to the ground.
Community Award: Aarner Anwar
This award was given to Aarner Anwar for his incredible work as a human rights Lawyer.
Entrepreneur of the Year: Satty Singh
Entrepreneur of the Year went to Satty Singh for his success in world events as well as business. Known for running the Mearns Golf Academy, Mr Singh has also arranged to have UK keynote speakers such as Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Hans Blix.
